Karen Leube

A native of Pennsylvania, I am a freelance translator and translator trainer now based in Aachen, Germany. My academic background includes degrees earned on both sides of the Atlantic. I started my translation career at the Lutheran World Federation in Geneva, Switzerland, with a one-year translation internship. Since then, I have worked as both as a freelancer and a staff translator, as well as in the translation departments of various universities.

I served on the faculty of the University of Heidelberg’s Institute for Translation and Interpreting from 1994 to 2004, where I offered courses on biomedical technology in cooperation with local hospitals and research institutions, in addition to numerous courses focusing on German–English translation, translation theory, and translating as a profession. I also taught medical translation at the School of Applied Translation and Cultural Studies (Fachbereich Translations- Sprach- und Kulturwissenschaft, FTSK) at the University of Mainz in Germersheim from October 2008 to April 2010.

Today, I teach continuing education courses for translators and interpreters, along with intensive university-based German courses.
